Luke Wafle Commits to USC as Top Defensive End Prospect

Top-ranked defensive end prospect Luke Wafle has committed to the University of Southern California (USC). The four-star recruit, ranked No. 85 overall and No. 1 in New Jersey, had narrowed his choices down to five schools but ultimately chose USC over Ohio State, Florida, Penn State, Texas, and others.

Wafle visited Los Angeles recently and took an official visit to USC in April, further solidifying his interest in the Trojans. His older brother Owen is a defensive tackle for Penn State, adding a family connection to the decision.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Wafle had impressive junior season statistics, recording 53 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and eight sacks. According to The Hun School of Princeton head coach Todd Smith, Luke is the “total package” – a dominant defensive lineman with elite physical traits, a relentless work ethic, and quiet leadership.

Smith praised Wafle’s game, saying he has a college-ready frame, advanced technique, and power that wears opponents down over four quarters. Off the field, Luke is described as humble, respectful, and deeply respected by teammates and coaches.

With this commitment, USC’s 2026 class now totals 30 total commitments. The Trojans’ coaching staff, led by Lincoln Riley and D’Anton Lynn, will look to utilize Wafle’s skills to bolster their defensive line.
