Former five-time Pro Bowl linebacker C.J. Mosley has retired from the NFL, revealing his decision on his 33rd birthday. The move comes after a year of dealing with injuries that limited him to just one game in the 2022 season.
Mosley had been a free agent since being released by the New York Jets at the start of the league year in March. He announced his retirement through an Instagram video, where he shared a highlight reel of his career and spoke about passing on his legacy to the next generation. Mosley cited every sacrifice as worth it and expressed his determination to make a new chapter with new dreams.
Throughout his 12-year NFL career, Mosley played for both the Baltimore Ravens and Jets. With the Ravens, he was an emotional leader and signal-caller, earning five Pro Bowl selections and being named second-team All-Pro in 2022. He recorded nearly 1,100 tackles over the years, including a standout season where he made his fifth Pro Bowl appearance.
Mosley’s impressive career began with Alabama, where he won numerous accolades before entering the NFL. A first-round pick by the Ravens in 2014, Mosley went on to earn Freshman All-American honors and helped Alabama win consecutive BCS national championships during his college years.
