US Tries to Broker Peace in Congo Amidst M23 Rebel Group Clashes

The United States has faced limited success in brokering peace in Gaza and Ukraine during President Donald Trump’s second term. However, a new potential opportunity for US involvement in conflict resolution has emerged in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. For nearly three and a half years, the Rwandan-supported M23 rebel group has clashed with the Congolese government and its allies, resulting in thousands of deaths and millions displaced. The M23, led by a Congolese Tutsi faction, aims to overthrow the government. Since November 2021, the Rwandan army has provided troops, munitions, weapons, and diplomatic support to the group, allowing it to expand its control over the region.
