Samsung Adds Earthquake Warning Feature to Wear OS Smartwatches

Samsung is set to integrate an essential life-saving feature into its Wear OS smartwatch platform. The company will reportedly add earthquake warning alerts to its devices, mirroring the experience of Google’s Pixel smartphones. Users will be able to customize the severity of these alerts based on tremor strength during both day and night modes.

The alert system will only notify users for earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.5 or greater. Samsung allows users to adjust their threshold settings from 1-4 for daytime alerts, while nighttime thresholds can range from 2-3. A notable feature is the ability to view a history of previous earthquake warnings received.

Although this feature has not been released in any of Samsung’s One UI 8 beta builds, it could debut on its new foldable devices in early July and then be rolled out to older models. To access the feature, users must have root access on their device, as it is currently available for sideloading via APK download.
