Martina Navratilova Speaks Out Against US Immigration Raids and Trump’s America

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has expressed her dismay with the current state of the US, citing its “totalitarian” tendencies under President Donald Trump. In an interview with BBC, she stated that if she had to leave the country again like she did in 1975, it would not be America due to its erosion of democratic values.

Navratilova recalls her decision to defect from communist Czechoslovakia as a 17-year-old high school pupil and how it changed her life. She credits her move to the US for becoming one of tennis’s most iconic players. However, she fears that the US has become increasingly hostile towards migrants, with sweeping immigration raids sparking protests.

She also expressed frustration over US politics, stating that people have not noticed a gradual decline in democratic values under Trump’s administration. Navratilova believes that the US is “definitely turning against migrants” and that those who disagree with Trump’s agenda are being targeted.

On another divisive issue, Navratilova reiterated her stance on transgender women participating in women’s sports, stating that male bodies have biological advantages and should compete in men’s categories. Her comments sparked debate, as some argue that she is being too harsh towards trans individuals.

Despite her outspoken views, Navratilova remains a dual US and Czech citizen and has faced cancer struggles over the past 15 years. She credits her experiences with cancer for teaching her to appreciate everyday moments and not sweat the small stuff.
