A new study warns that global climate zones could undergo drastic changes within the next 77 years. By 2100, up to half of Earth’s land area may transition to a completely different climate zone, potentially requiring a redrawn world map. The most significant shifts are expected in Europe and North America.
The research uses the Köppen-Geiger climate classification system, which categorizes climates based on temperature, precipitation, and seasons, into five primary zones: tropical, arid, temperate, continental, and polar. Europe is projected to experience some of the most pronounced changes, with much of the continent expected to warm significantly.
This shift could have far-reaching consequences for agriculture, ecosystems, and biodiversity. As the world warms, the pace of change is accelerating, posing a challenge for conservationists, farmers, and policymakers to adapt. The study highlights the need for global action to combat climate change and mitigate catastrophic consequences.
