How Samsung Can Convince Me (and You) to Buy a Foldable Phone

As I’ve been testing various phones over the years, including foldables, I’ve never felt the urge to make one of these devices my primary handset. The Motorola Razr 2023 and Microsoft Surface Duo 2 are great options in their own right, but for me, the benefits just don’t outweigh the higher costs.

Samsung is rumored to be releasing new foldable models soon, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which promises to be “thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet.” While that sounds appealing, I’m skeptical about the value proposition. With a new phone launch on the horizon, Samsung needs to convince me – and maybe you too – to justify the higher prices.

One potential area of focus is multitasking. Samsung has made some effort in this department, particularly with its taskbar feature. However, I think there’s room for improvement. I’d love to see more apps optimized for larger foldable screens, making the Galaxy Z Fold feel more essential.

Another key area is AI. Last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 introduced new features like Sketch to Image, which uses generative AI to flesh out your sketch. However, these capabilities aren’t necessarily specific to foldables. I’d like to see Samsung develop some unique AI features tailored for its foldable phones.

The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 may address some of these concerns with the addition of a new camera setup, including a 200MP main camera and improved under-display cameras. If Samsung can deliver on all fronts at the $1,899 starting price, I might just consider making a foldable phone my primary handset.
