NASA Reveals Crash Site of Japanese Lunar Lander ‘Resilience’

NASA has released photographs of the crash site of Japan’s lunar lander, Resilience, which crashed on the moon two weeks ago. The images were captured by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and show a dark smudge where the lander and its mini rover impacted Mare Frigoris, a volcanic region in the moon’s far north.

The impact also kicked up a faint halo of lunar dirt around the area. This is not the first failure for Japan’s space company, ispace, which experienced a similar incident two years ago. The company plans to hold a news conference next week to explain what went wrong with the latest mission.
