Woman Admits Hit-and-Run Fatality in Hamptons Real Estate Agent’s Death

A 32-year-old Virginia woman, Amanda Kempton, has been arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed 40-year-old real estate agent Sara Burack in Hampton Bays. Kempton pleaded not guilty and was released from police custody after her family posted collateral to secure her $100,000 bail.

Kempton’s lawyer claimed she thought she had hit a traffic cone when she struck Burack with her vehicle on Montauk Highway. However, authorities found that the victim’s pink suitcase was lodged underneath Kempton’s car at her friend’s home. Kempton allegedly spent time at a tavern before the incident and faces up to seven years in prison for the felony charge.

Burack, who specialized in high-end properties, was walking on the westbound lane when she was struck by Kempton’s vehicle. The area was foggy, and Kempton claimed not to have seen the victim, believing instead that she had hit a traffic cone. She left the scene and went to her friend’s home before being caught by authorities.
