United Airlines Flight 507 Emergency Lands in Iceland

A United Airlines Boeing 777 operating flight UA507 from San Francisco to Rome has declared an emergency over the Atlantic Ocean. The aircraft, N76010, is a 26.1-year-old Boeing 777-200 that was originally flown by Continental Airlines.

The plane departed San Francisco at 17:03 local time and was headed for Rome when it suddenly descended rapidly to 21,000 feet due to an issue onboard. All passengers were safely diverted north to Iceland after squawking the emergency code 7700 and diverting away from their planned route.

As of 08:40 UK time, the aircraft is still in flight but making progress towards its diversion field in Keflavik, near Reykjavik. The plane has now commenced a descent from 21,000 feet and is preparing for an emergency landing at Iceland’s Keflavik Airport.

Update: Flight UA507 has safely touched down into Keflavik Airport following an emergency declaration over the Atlantic Ocean. Despite the incident, all passengers appear to have been evacuated safely. The reason for the emergency remains unclear but is being investigated by authorities.
