Coastal Carolina lost its first game in 27 contests, falling short 1-0 against LSU in the Men’s College World Series Finals. The Tigers’ sole run came courtesy of Steven Milam’s RBI single in the bottom of the first inning, scoring Derek Curiel from second base.
LSU starter Kade Anderson delivered a masterful complete-game shutout, scattering three hits while striking out 10 batters. This marked the Chanticleers’ first time being held under four runs in the NCAA Tournament and their first shutout since April 6.
Despite putting runners on base in five separate innings, Coastal Carolina was unable to capitalize. The Chanticleers had nine runners stranded overall, with their best chance coming in the third inning when Cameron Flukey’s replacement, Dominick Carbone, worked out of a bases-loaded situation.
Coastal Carolina must win Sunday’s Game Two to force a deciding Game Three on Monday. Head Coach Kevin Schnall emphasized the team’s need to regroup and rebound from this loss. “If it was going to be easy, there would be more than one national champion,” Schnall said. “We’ve got to respond, rebound, regroup.”
