Hannah Mai, a 37-year-old woman from the UK, has lost an incredible 10 stone (around 140 pounds) in two years after being diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, a rare hormonal disorder. The condition caused her to gain weight rapidly due to high levels of cortisol.
In October 2020, Hannah was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease and underwent brain surgery to remove the pituitary tumour that causes the condition. After five months, she began taking steroids to control her symptoms. However, in April 2023, her doctor took her off steroid medication as her condition improved.
With a new determination to shed the weight gained due to Cushing’s disease, Hannah embarked on an intensive exercise and diet regimen. She focused on high-protein meals and Pilates every day, cutting out sugar, dairy, gluten, and other allergens. The results were remarkable – she slimmed down from 20 stone 5lbs (around 150 pounds) to 10 stone 4lbs (around 130 pounds).
Hannah’s weight loss journey was not without its challenges. She had struggled with weight gain for years, with some doctors attributing her weight loss to hormonal changes or pregnancy. However, she remained determined and worked hard to push herself. In two years, Hannah achieved a size 10, down from a size 26, which brings back memories of when she was first diagnosed.
Despite the incredible transformation, Hannah remains cautious about regaining weight. She is currently raising money for The Pituitary Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting those affected by Cushing’s disease and other rare hormonal disorders.
