Samsung’s infamous Galaxy Note 7 smartphones have resurfaced on social media, sparking renewed interest. First introduced in 2016, the device was plagued by battery issues that led to overheating and explosions. The US government took drastic action, banning the phone from air travel due to safety concerns.
In 2016, Samsung recalled nearly all Galaxy Note 7 devices sold worldwide after reports of 96 cases of battery overheating in the US, resulting in 13 reported burns and 47 property damage incidents. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) added the device to its no-fly list, warning individuals not to transport it on planes.
Fast forward to June 2025, when a TikTok user shared a video of an airport sign confirming the ban. However, the particular model is no longer available in the market. People are once again talking about the phone’s notorious battery issues, with some calling them “too outdated” to be used.
The issue was severe enough that global updates for older phones were discontinued after a certain period. The recalls and bans led to significant safety concerns, making it clear why the Galaxy Note 7 is off-limits in US airports.
