A Russian drone and missile attack on Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv killed at least five people and injured others. The attack targeted residential areas, hospitals, and sports infrastructure across multiple districts in the city. One section of a five-story apartment building collapsed, trapping several people under the debris.
Emergency crews worked to rescue those trapped, with a pregnant woman among those rescued from a nearby high-rise that was damaged by the blast. Dozens of volunteers helped clean up the scene, while onlookers watched tearfully as the cleanup operation took place.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attack as one of the biggest bombardments of the war, which has now entered its fourth year. The incident follows a similar attack last week that killed 28 people in Kyiv.
The US and Israel recently launched strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, sparking condemnation from Russia, with which Moscow has increasingly aligned in recent years. However, it appears there will be no immediate contact between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
