Goldberg Justifies WWE Title Shot Against GUNTHER at 58

Goldberg returned to WWE on this week’s episode of Raw and set up his retirement match against World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER for July 12. Critics like Busted Open Radio’s Bully Ray have called the booking decision “lazy” due to Goldberg simply walking out to the ring with a limp and requesting a title shot. Even John Cena, who competed in multiple matches this year, had to earn his WWE championship opportunity.

In an interview, Goldberg explained that he deserves the world title match because of his 176-0 record in WCW back in 1998. He believes that as a legendary wrestler, he should have the equity to return to WWE and receive important matches without having to go through the same process as newer talent. Goldberg also acknowledged that his age has been an issue, but he’s determined to prove himself and says he’s better than most wrestlers on the planet.

Goldberg made some valid points in response to critics, particularly regarding legacy and experience. While it’s true that he was granted a title shot with minimal effort, his accomplishments in WCW are undeniable. He also made a bold statement about being willing to risk his legacy for a chance to prove himself, which is understandable given his age.

However, some might argue that Goldberg’s willingness to take on a significant risk at 58 puts unnecessary pressure on his body and potentially compromises his health. Whether or not he can pull off the match without suffering an injury remains to be seen.
