Ducks Deal Trevor Zegras to Flyers in Trade for Ryan Poehling

The Anaheim Ducks have finally dealt long-rumored trade target Trevor Zegras to the Philadelphia Flyers, with the club agreeing to send him to Philadelphia for a second-round pick in next week’s draft (No. 45 overall), a fourth-round pick in 2026, and forward Ryan Poehling.

Zegras, 24, has been struggling with inconsistency and injuries since being drafted by the Ducks with the No. 9 pick in 2019. This season, he totaled 12 goals and 20 assists in 57 games, and now joins a Flyers team looking to rebuild and improve after finishing with the fourth-worst record in the NHL last year.

The trade marks a major shift in the Ducks’ rebuild, as general manager Pat Verbeek shifts his focus towards building talent and depth. Zegras will provide much-needed skill to the Flyers’ top six, but it’s unclear whether he’ll play on the wing or at center, where the team desperately needs more talent.

The cost of acquiring Zegras seems reasonable, with Poehling bringing size and speed as a potential upgrade at fourth-line center. The trade also opens up the possibility for the Ducks to make a major move in free agency, potentially landing a top-line winger like Mitch Marner.

For the Ducks, Zegras’ departure ends a long saga of speculation about his future with the team. With $3.8 million in cap space freed up by Poehling’s signing, Anaheim is now in a strong position to offer Marner or pursue other high-profile signings.
