Samsung Unveils Thinner Foldable Smartphone to Challenge Chinese Rivals

Samsung is set to launch its next foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold7, at an event next month. The company aims to catch up with Chinese rivals like Honor and Oppo, which have released thinner and lighter foldables.

The latest foldable smartphones from Chinese players are significantly thinner and lighter than Samsung’s offerings. For example, Oppo’s Find N5 is 8.93 millimeters thick when closed and weighs 229 grams, while the Honor Magic V3 is 9.2 millimeters thick when folded and weighs 226 grams.

Samsung promises that its upcoming device will be the thinnest, lightest, and most advanced foldable yet. However, the company faces stiff competition from Chinese players who have successfully differentiated themselves with slim designs.

Analysts say that delivering thinner foldables could help Samsung address the sluggish market for these devices. But it’s also crucial to change consumer preferences, as many people struggle to see why they need a folding device.

The entry of Apple into the foldable smartphone market is expected next year. While this may bring more competition, it could also help boost sales and popularity of foldables.

With its new Galaxy Fold7, Samsung aims to regain the lead in the thin foldable smartphone segment. The company will unveil the device at an event likely set to take place next month.
