Aging Hearts Remain Resilient Despite Cellular Changes

Researchers at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute found that healthy aging hearts are less susceptible to irregular heartbeat despite cellular changes. As we age, heart cells grow and become closer together, making them more efficient but also more sensitive to abnormal electrical conduction. While natural aging helps maintain a resilient heart, pre-existing damage can still cause fatigue. This study challenges the common perception that older hearts naturally deteriorate.
