Netflix is removing over 20 mobile games from its library starting July 15th, according to reports. The streaming giant has added “Leaving Soon” notices to these titles, including popular ones like Monument Valley and Hades.
The removals include recent releases such as Carmen Sandiego, which debuted in January, and Monument Valley 3. Other notable titles heading out of the library are Battleship, Braid, LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed, Ludo King, and SpongeBob: Bubble Pop F.U.N.
This move follows recent changes at Netflix, including the cancellation of its interactive fiction IP and a shift in its gaming strategy. Co-CEO Gregory Peters noted that the company is on a “multiyear iterative journey” to improve its games offerings.
The departure of former VP of Games Mike Verdu also contributed to the changes. He left the company after nearly four years to launch a new AI startup, Playful.AI, alongside Zynga founder Mark Pincus. The startup aims to utilize artificial intelligence in game development.
