Daisy Edgar-Jones is set to lead a new film adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel, Sense and Sensibility. The 27-year-old, who gained recognition for her role in the hit miniseries Normal People, will play the character of Elinor. Production on the movie is expected to begin next month.
The film will be directed by Georgia Oakley, known for her critically acclaimed drama Blue Jean, which explores themes of identity and secrecy during Thatcher’s era. The production team also includes Working Title producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, who have previously collaborated on notable projects such as Pride and Prejudice and Emma.
The story follows the Dashwood sisters, who seek financial security through potential suitors. Austen’s adaptation has been brought to life in various forms before, including a 1995 Oscar-winning film starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, as well as a BBC series in 2008.
Edgar-Jones’ involvement marks her latest role following her success in films such as Fresh, Twisters, Where the Crawdads Sing, and On Swift Horses. She will next appear opposite Michelle Williams in A Place in Hell, directed by Chloe Dumont.
