Hollywood star Brad Pitt has described the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire as “hallowed ground” after shooting scenes for new film Formula 1: The Movie. The movie, starring Pitt and featuring real racing locations like Abu Dhabi and Rockingham, is set to hit cinemas this week.
Pitt plays fictional veteran driver Sonny Hayes in the film, which also stars Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and Charles Leclerc. Director Joseph Kosinski said filming at actual grands prix presented major production challenges due to working with the F1 schedule.
The movie has been hailed as a “landmark for the sport” by F1 officials. Cast members praised the on-track experience, saying it added realism to their performances. For example, Damson Idris described driving at high speeds as a “freeing feeling”.
F1: The Movie is out in cinemas this Wednesday.
