Rockets Lock Up VanVleet with $50 Million Deal

The Houston Rockets have secured Fred VanVleet’s future by signing him to a two-year, $50 million extension. The deal includes a player option for the 2026-27 season and will keep VanVleet with the team until at least 2026-27.

VanVleet had a team option for next summer but has opted to stay with the Rockets instead. The move comes after the team made several significant offseason additions, including signing center Steven Adams to a three-year deal and acquiring Kevin Durant in a blockbuster trade.

The new deal provides Houston with added flexibility in free agency in 2026. VanVleet’s average production during his time with the Rockets includes 14.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game, while shooting 37.8% overall and 34.5% on three-pointers.

The extension marks a significant improvement for the team, which went from just 42 games combined in the two seasons before new coach Ime Udoka was hired to a 52-30 record this season, their first winning season since 2019-20.
