Google has announced that users of the Gemini app will be able to access basic smart assistant capabilities on their Android phone without having to track their activity. This change comes ahead of Gemini replacing Google Assistant later this year.
Currently, when the Gemini Apps Activity setting is enabled, user data is sent to Google for “improvement and personalization” purposes. However, users can now opt-out of this tracking by disabling the Gemini Apps Activity setting. According to Google, this will not affect the functionality of the Gemini extensions, which provide basic smart assistant features such as call contacts, messages, and utilities.
Users will still be able to use these extensions even if they disable the activity tracking feature. The change was announced via email and is expected to take effect on July 7th. Users who have already disabled the Gemini Apps Activity setting will not see any changes.
