Russia launched devastating attacks on Ukrainian cities in two days, killing dozens of civilians and injuring over 170 people. The attacks, which targeted Dnipro, Kyiv, Sumy, Kherson, Donetsk, and Odesa regions, were the deadliest in months.
The worst-hit city was Dnipro, where a Russian ballistic missile struck on Tuesday, killing 15 people and causing widespread damage to almost 50 buildings, including schools, hospitals, and residential homes. The attack left over 2,000 shattered windows and damaged a passenger train carrying 500 people.
In Kyiv, a strike on an apartment building on Monday killed multiple family members, including two children aged five and 11. The victims included a mother and her daughter who were also killed in the same attack.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia’s ties to Iran have enabled it to escalate its attacks on Ukraine. He highlighted that Iran has supplied Moscow with weapons, including drones, and that Moscow has stood by Iran during the recent conflict with Israel.
Zelensky also warned that Russia is determined to continue the war without any signs of peace proposals being accepted. “Putin only thinks about war,” he said. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reiterated the alliance’s support for Ukraine, while British Defense Secretary John Healy emphasized the importance of not forgetting about Ukraine amidst global attention on the Middle East.
The attacks come as Russia scales up its domestic production of drones and intensifies its aerial attacks on Ukrainian cities.
