SpaceX Launches 27 Starlink Satellites from Cape Canaveral

SpaceX successfully launched its second mission of the day on Wednesday, sending up 27 Starlink communication satellites from the Space Coast. The Falcon 9 rocket booster made its 20th flight and lifted off from Space Launch Complex 40 at 3:54 p.m. after experiencing some delays.

The launch came ahead of a rare double launch day, which also saw SpaceX’s Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) take off earlier in the day with four astronauts bound for the International Space Station. This was the 20th mission for the Falcon 9’s first-stage booster B1080, which successfully landed on the droneship Just Read the Instructions after stage separation.

The Starlink satellites are designed to provide internet service to many parts of Earth and will join thousands already in low-Earth orbit. With this launch, SpaceX has now placed a total of 7,821 satellites in space, including 6,955 that are currently operational.
