Microsoft has released the KB5060829 preview cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2, which includes 38 changes, including improvements to the taskbar and a new PC-to-PC migration experience. This optional non-security preview update is available monthly and allows administrators to test bug fixes, improvements, and new features before they roll out to all users.
The update introduces a PC-to-PC migration feature, enabling users to transfer files and settings from old computers to new ones during the setup process. However, this feature’s support is currently not available.
The taskbar has also been tweaked to fit more app icons when space is limited. The “Show smaller taskbar buttons” setting can be adjusted from Taskbar settings > Taskbar behaviors.
This update comes with several fixes and improvements, including:
* Fixed: Running a script on a remote Server Message Block (SMB) share may take an unexpectedly long time if the share is hosted on an older Windows Server version.
* Fixed: When you press ALT + Tab to switch out of a full-screen game, other windows might stop responding.
* Fixed: Explorer.exe might stop working unexpectedly when a window is dragged if window snapping is enabled.
The update also addresses several issues with Windows Search and storage optimization. However, it’s affected by a single known issue that causes CJK text to appear blurry or unclear in Chromium-based browsers.
Windows 11 KB5060829 highlights the new features and fixes included in this update. Microsoft has released the full release notes for the update, which can be found in this support bulletin.
