Air India Flight Recorders Reveal Crashing Moments

India has recovered data from the crashed Air India flight recorders, a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash that killed 270 people earlier this month. The Enhanced Airborne Flight Recorders (EAFRs), also known as “black boxes,” were retrieved by investigators and are currently being analyzed.

The data from these recorders can help reconstruct the flight’s final moments and identify the cause of the incident. The recorder sets track various aspects, including gear and flap lever positions, engine performance, fuel flow, and fire handle activation. This information will aid in enhancing aviation safety and preventing future occurrences.

The Indian Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has been working closely with the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), with data being accessed by a team led by the AAIB. The investigation’s findings may be shared publicly soon, according to NTSB chair Jennifer Homendy, who hopes for swift disclosure.

The crash itself occurred when Air India Flight 171 took off from Ahmedabad airport and crashed into a crowded neighborhood just 40 seconds later, killing all but one of the 242 passengers on board. The investigation has raised questions among aviation experts about the unusual delay in sharing data from the recorders.
