Belfast rap group Kneecap delivered a highly-charged performance at Glastonbury, targeting Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer with expletive-laden chants. The Irish-language band thanked the festival for keeping them on the bill and acknowledged criticism from Starmer, who had previously described their appearance as “not appropriate”. During their set, lead rapper Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh criticized Israel’s military actions in Gaza, accused the UK of selling arms to Israel, and urged support for Palestine Action. The BBC faced a dilemma over broadcasting their performance due to concerns about impartiality and language. Despite the controversy, Glastonbury founder Sir Michael Eavis defended the band’s right to perform, stating that “people that don’t agree with the politics of the event can go somewhere else”.
