Ginés Leads Men’s Lead Climbing at Innsbruck World Cup

Top-ranked athletes delivered strong performances in the IFSC Climbing World Cup Innsbruck 2025 as joint qualification rounds began. Spain’s Alberto Ginés López topped the men’s leaderboard after two impressive climbs, scoring 38+ on route one and 45+ on route two.

Ginés López held off a strong Japanese contingent that claimed four of the next five spots. Suzuki Neo of Japan took second with an impressive performance, while Anraku Sorato placed third. Yoshida Satone and Murashita Zento rounded out the top six for Japan.

France’s Max Bertone advanced to his eighth Lead semi-final in eight World Cup appearances, despite feeling that he didn’t give his best climb. “Qualification was very good,” Bertone said. “I’m starting to find my flow, but I still don’t think I gave my best.”

In the women’s division, Slovenia’s Janja Garnbret dominated the competition, topping both qualification routes to lead with authority. Behind her, six athletes tied for second place. Among them were Garnbret’s teammate Lucka Rakovec, making her World Cup return after a long break.

Garnbret said she was nervous before the competition but found her rhythm quickly. “It’s amazing,” she said. “I missed the people, I missed the experience, everything.” The top athletes will now battle it out in the Lead semi-finals as the World Cup in Innsbruck heads into the weekend.
