Child Rescued After Being Stuck in Sewer for Hours

A 7-year-old girl was rescued after being trapped inside a sewer drain in China’s Guizhou province for over seven hours during heavy rainfall on Monday, June 23. The girl had been trying to retrieve a lost shoe when she was pulled into the sewer by rushing waters.

Firefighters accessed the sewer through a manhole and later saved her, despite the challenging conditions. The rescue comes as heavy rains have hit southern China’s provinces, including Guizhou, since June 17, causing widespread flooding.

According to authorities, the girl had “no obvious serious injuries” after being rescued. She was handed over to medical personnel and reported to be in good condition. Firefighters praised her bravery, saying she showed “amazing calmness and perseverance” against the darkness, coldness, and fear.

Over 80,000 residents in Guizhou were evacuated by Tuesday afternoon, while at least six people have died due to flooding. Other provinces, including Guangdong’s Huaiji County, have also been affected, with over 30,000 people evacuated following days of major rain.
