Fort Worth City Hall Goes Rainbow for Trinity Pride Fest

Fort Worth’s Trinity Pride Fest brought together the community to celebrate LGBTQ pride in June. To make the event even more special, Council member Elizabeth Beck secretly arranged for City Hall’s rooftop to be illuminated with rainbow-colored lighting. The display was a public show of solidarity with the LGBTQ community and was visible throughout the festival.

The new City Hall building features advanced technology that allows it to change its lighting colors and designs to recognize events and occasions across Fort Worth. Beck had initially planned to implement Pride Month lighting later, but she wanted to make it an annual tradition. The rooftop lights changed at sunset, coinciding with performances from musical artists and drag queens.

The festival, held annually in June, is Fort Worth’s largest Pride event. Trinity Pride board president Roger Calderon praised Beck’s plan, calling the rainbow lighting a “beautiful culmination of a month that began with a Pride proclamation.” Mayor Mattie Parker had also publicly supported LGBTQ residents through a recognition declaration.

Beck sees the rainbow lighting as a way to add visibility to Pride in Fort Worth and show community leaders’ support for LGBTQ residents. She believes it’s essential, especially during times when attacks on the LGBTQ community increase both locally and nationwide. The gesture is a step in the right direction for rebuilding trust between city leadership and the LGBTQ community.

The City Hall lighting has sparked joy among attendees and marks an annual tradition that Beck hopes will continue to grow.
