The head of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), Johnnie Moore, has defended his organization’s aid operations amidst repeated incidents of killings and injuries of Palestinians seeking aid. Moore denied that deaths near aid sites were solely attributed to the GHF, stating that the UN and other organizations are spreading unverified information.
Moore accused the UN and others of disinformation, claiming they have no evidence of casualties occurring near GHF sites. He also pointed out that prior to GHF’s operations, most UN aid trucks were being hijacked at gunpoint, which he said the UN is not acknowledging.
The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has condemned the GHF operation as “inherently unsafe” due to its potential to channel civilians into militarized zones. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected allegations of Israeli forces opening fire on unarmed civilians near aid distribution sites, but an unnamed IDF soldier reported being ordered to shoot at civilians to disperse them.
The GHF has been criticized for its handling of the situation, with over 500 Palestinians killed and 4,000 injured since it took over aid distribution. The organization aims to provide 50 million meals in Gaza, which would be less than a meal per person per day.
