Israel’s blockade on Gaza has turned aid distribution sites into killing fields, with over 500 Palestinians killed and 4,000 wounded in the past two months. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), backed by the US and Israel, has been accused of orchestrating these deadly traps.
The GHF’s limited aid deliveries have created a situation where Palestinians are forced to fight for food, with reports of chaos, violence, and even murder. The “Netzarim Corridor” – a fenced area near Salah al-Din Street – has become notorious as the “death corridor,” surrounded by sand and guarded by foreign military contractors.
The aid distribution process is marred by chaos, with no clear schedule or staff, leading to stampedes and violent clashes. Over 500 Palestinians have been killed in these incidents, while many more are injured. The Israeli army has admitted to ordering soldiers to shoot at the crowds of Palestinians trying to get aid at the GHF hubs.
The GHF’s system is a far cry from the model of organisation and fairness implemented by the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA. UNRWA’s system prioritized the most vulnerable families, reducing the risk of deadly stampedes and violent clashes.
Israel’s design of the aid distribution process – “hunger games” – aims to create chaos and disorder, weakening Palestinian solidarity and social order. The international community’s inaction is a damning indictment of its own loss of humanity.
