Blue Origin Readies for Second New Glenn Launch in Fall

Blue Origin is moving forward with its second launch of the New Glenn rocket, which could occur this fall. The company has already tested the second stage of the rocket and is preparing the first stage for liftoff at its Cape Canaveral facility.

Initially set to launch no earlier than August 15, Blue Origin has adjusted its timeline, with a mid-September or late October/November launch now considered more likely. The payload for this launch remains under wraps, but sources indicate that NASA’s ESCAPADE mission will be sent to Mars to study the planet’s magnetosphere.

The ESCAPADE mission was originally slated for New Glenn’s first flight in October 2024 but was delayed due to uncertainty surrounding the debut launch date. As a result, the spacecraft are now expected to reach Mars in late 2027, rather than early next year. Following ESCAPADE, Blue Origin plans several missions, including Firefly’s Elytra orbital transfer vehicle and Blue Moon MK1 lander, which will be launched in subsequent years.
