Brad Pitt’s F1 Movie Surpasses Expectations with $55.6 Million Opening

Apple TV+ has finally scored a box office hit with its latest film “F1 The Movie”, which grossed $55.6 million in the US and Canada over the weekend. The Brad Pitt-led racing film, directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, exceeded expectations by outperforming pre-release audience surveys’ estimates of $40-50 million.

The film’s success can be attributed to its global appeal and a heavily promoted Imax run, which accounted for 23% of the domestic weekend revenue. The movie also performed well in international markets, raking in an additional $88 million.

However, despite its strong opening, “F1” will still require significant ticket sales to break even, considering its reported budget of over $200 million. Apple TV+ has struggled to replicate its critical success with shows like “Severance” and “The Studio” at the box office.

Other notable releases this weekend included “M3GAN 2.0”, which underperformed with a debut of just $10 million, and Disney and Pixar’s “Elio”, which collected around $11 million on its opening weekend.

“F1 The Movie” benefits from a well-received critical score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the movie an “A” grade. With its strong performance, Apple TV+ is finally proving that its films can be successful at the box office.
