Amtrak Revives Mardi Gras Service from Mobile to New Orleans

Amtrak has announced its Mardi Gras service will begin on August 18, offering twice-daily trains between Mobile and New Orleans with stops in Pascagoula, Biloxi, Gulfport, Bay St. Louis, and other locations along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Fares for the train service are expected to be as low as $15 for a one-way ticket, making it an attractive alternative for travelers. The twice-daily trains will depart Mobile at 6:30 am and 4:30 pm, arriving in New Orleans at 10:30 am and 8:13 pm.

Passengers can earn triple points for booking tickets through Amtrak’s rewards program, and the service includes everyday discounts for children, students, seniors, and veterans. The trains will offer coach and business class seats, as well as cafe service with locally sourced items.

The return journey will also have connections to other Amtrak routes, including the City of New Orleans train to Chicago, and the Crescent train to New York via Atlanta.

The launch of this new service marks an end to a years-long wait for passenger rail service on the Gulf Coast, which was discontinued after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
