A fire at a pharmaceuticals factory in southern India’s Telangana state has killed at least 34 people. The blast occurred during work hours on Monday at Sigachi Industries’ facility, leaving 25 victims with burns and injuries. Many of the workers were migrants from neighboring states.
According to authorities, approximately 60 people were inside the building when the explosion took place, causing it to collapse. Rescue officials say they are still clearing debris and have not yet confirmed how many people may be trapped.
The company has halted operations for 90 days due to damage caused by the blast. Police have registered a case against Sigachi Industries’ management over the incident. The government has announced compensation of $2,336 per deceased family member and $50,000 for injured victims.
DNA testing is being used to identify charred bodies, while rescue workers are using fine dust chemical particles as evidence. Authorities have expressed shock over the incident and promised to assist families of the victims.
