Robinhood to Launch Tokenized Equities Trading Platform

Robinhood Markets, Inc., the popular commission-free trading platform, is set to launch a new tokenized equities trading platform that allows users to trade tokens linked to stocks of privately-held companies. The move comes as the company’s shares hit a record high and the global interest in the U.S. stock market continues to rise.

According to the company’s top executives, the tokens will be issued through a partnership with blockchain firm Arbitrum and will be tradable around-the-clock, five days a week. The platform also plans to expand trading hours to 24/7 from 24/5 currently.

Experts believe that tokenized equities could dramatically alter the securities investing landscape, but they currently lack regulatory clarity in the United States. Robinhood aims to eventually develop its own blockchain that will further enhance trading experiences and provide better access to international investors.

The company plans to issue “thousands” of available stock tokens by the end of the year, according to CEO Vlad Tenev. He described tokenization as a potential catalyst for a massive trading revolution.
