Private sector employment in the US shed 33,000 jobs in June, according to the latest ADP National Employment Report. The report, which is based on anonymized payroll data of over 25 million employees, also shows that annual pay growth for job-stayers increased by 4.4% year-over-year.
Despite the decline in employment, pay growth held steady, with job-changers experiencing a 6.8% increase in annual pay. The slowdown in hiring has yet to disrupt pay growth, suggesting that employers are still investing in their employees.
The report highlights losses in professional and business services, as well as education and health services, while leisure and hospitality, and manufacturing saw gains. Regionally, the Midwest suffered the largest decline, with 24,000 jobs lost, followed by the Northeast, which saw a decrease of 3,000.
The ADP National Employment Report provides an independent measure of the US private sector labor market, offering insights into employment trends and pay growth. The report is produced by ADP Research in collaboration with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab and is released monthly, free of charge, to provide businesses and governments with a credible source of information on the labor market.
The next report will be released on July 30, 2025, at 8:15 am ET, offering further analysis of the US private sector employment trends.
