Google Introduces New “Member” Role in Google Home App for Safe Family Access

Google has introduced a new “Member” role in its Google Home app, allowing users to share access to their home with family members and guests while setting limits on what they can do. The new feature is available as part of the v3.33 update.

The “Member” role offers customized access to your home, with options for sharing devices and data with partner services, managing home-wide settings, and checking device history. However, users within this role have limited access to certain functions, such as adding or removing devices, setting up presence sensing, or deleting the home.

Google also introduced a new feature that allows children under 13 to be added to a home, enabling them to control basic functions like turning on lights, controlling music, and unlocking doors. To add a child to your home, they must be part of your Google family group and join as a “Member” with limited access.

This update aims to provide safe and efficient sharing of access to homes while maintaining control over sensitive information. The new “Member” role offers flexibility for users to share their space with trusted individuals without compromising security or autonomy.
