China and Belgium reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing exchanges and upholding multilateralism during a meeting between Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever in Brussels.
Wang welcomed the new Belgian government’s rational approach towards China, expressing willingness to collaborate on fostering a stable partnership. He also encouraged more Belgian companies to invest in China, seeking a secure business environment for Chinese firms.
The meeting coincided with the 50th anniversary of China-EU relations, with Wang praising Belgium’s role in European integration and China-EU exchanges. He emphasized that both sides have a history of mutual respect and win-win cooperation.
In light of global challenges, Wang called for strengthened communication and trust between China and the EU to maintain multilateralism and free trade. A strong partnership would provide stability for the world and serve as a reliable anchor.
De Wever pledged adherence to the one-China policy and emphasized the need for exchanges and trust between the EU and China despite differing perspectives. The meeting also touched on the Ukraine issue, with both sides seeking positive outcomes.
