The director of Gaza’s Indonesian Hospital, Dr Marwan Sultan, was killed in an Israeli air strike on his home in Gaza City along with several family members. The Hamas-run health ministry condemned the attack as a “heinous crime against our medical cadres”.
Israel claimed to be targeting a key terrorist from Hamas, but eyewitnesses disputed this account. A doctor’s daughter said her father was “directly hit” by an F-16 missile in his home.
At least five people were killed and others injured in another strike on the al-Mawasi “safe zone”, which was declared by the Israeli military to be a safe area.
Gaza is currently experiencing extreme heat, with temperatures topping 30C, making life difficult for displaced people living in tents without electricity or fans.
The situation remains dire, with at least 139 people killed by Israeli military operations in the past 24 hours, and more than 57,000 Palestinians dead since Israel’s military offensive began.
