Trump Nominates SpaceX Founder Jared Isaacman to Lead NASA

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson expressed “basically optimistic” views about the future of the agency under President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed successor, Jared Isaacman. Despite concerns over potential changes to Artemis, Nelson said he looked forward to meeting with Isaacman and believes the new administration will continue a safe and reliable path for NASA.

Isaacman, who has expressed criticism of the current Artemis architecture, including its use of the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft, has sparked speculation about his plans for the agency. However, Nelson was skeptical that significant changes would be made, citing the success of the SLS combined with Orion. He also sees Elon Musk’s influence as a positive factor in securing funding for NASA.

Many in the space community praise Isaacman’s passion, experience, and background in running an organization and being a pilot and astronaut. Some expect the new administration to continue pushing for commercialization at NASA and finding the right balance between the agency and companies.
