US Secures Critical Minerals Partnership with Quad Countries

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi as part of the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Washington. The officials reaffirmed their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific region and pledged to work together on peace, security, and prosperity.

During the meeting, the US announced the launch of the Quad Critical Minerals Initiative, aiming to strengthen economic security by securing and diversifying critical mineral supply chains. The initiative is part of an expanded partnership with Quad countries to enhance collective resilience.

Separate meetings were held between the Secretary and each minister to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Discussions focused on advancing US-Japan security ties, reaffirming US-India relations through implementation of the US-India COMPACT, and deepening US-Australia cooperation on critical minerals and security in the Indo-Pacific region.
