WNBA Star Questions Expansion Plans to Detroit and Cleveland

WNBA veteran Sophie Cunningham has expressed skepticism about the league’s plans to expand to three new cities, including Detroit. The Indiana Fever player was quoted saying that she doesn’t know how excited people are about returning to Detroit or playing in Cleveland.

Cunningham mentioned that players want to be part of a team and have a say in their expansion plans. She suggested alternative locations like Kansas City, Miami, Nashville, and Toronto could have been more suitable options for the WNBA.

The city of Detroit has a proven track record with the WNBA’s Detroit Shock, which won three championships from 2003 to 2008. However, Cunningham seems unsure about the league’s excitement for returning to the city.

In response to Cunningham’s comments, the city of Detroit’s social media account highlighted the success of the previous team and expressed confidence in seeing excitement for the WNBA’s return.
