Rangers Deal Miller to Hurricanes for Picks and Prospect

The New York Rangers continued their roster reshuffle by trading veteran defenseman K’Andre Miller to the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night. In return, the Hurricanes sent a 2026 first- and second-round pick to the Rangers. The first-round pick is top-10 protected and will be awarded in favor of the Dallas Stars if needed.

The Rangers also added blue-line depth with the inclusion of Scott Morrow, a 22-year-old prospect who had 39 points in 52 AHL games last season. Carolina secured an eight-year, $60 million contract extension for Miller, who averaged 21 minutes, 56 seconds of ice time last season.

Miller, 25, played college hockey at Wisconsin and was eligible to field offer sheets. The Rangers were not willing to commit to him long-term, opting instead to trade him. Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky described Miller as a “strong fit” for the team’s playing style, citing his approach to approaching his prime.

The deal continues the Rangers’ blue-line makeover, following the signing of veteran Vladislav Gavrikov earlier in the day. The Rangers are now focused on competing in the 2026 season, and may be willing to trade valuable picks if necessary.
