Flash floods have struck the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, leaving at least three people dead and a dozen missing. The floods were triggered by torrential rains, causing water levels to rise suddenly near a hydroelectricity power project.
Rescue efforts are underway to locate the missing individuals, with authorities confirming eight people are still unaccounted for in Kangra district and three in Kullu district. Over 50 stranded tourists have been evacuated to safer areas.
Environmental experts warn that deforestation and hydel power projects can contribute to flash floods in India’s mountain states during the monsoon season.
