The Carolina Hurricanes have signed 29-year-old winger Nikolaj Ehlers to a six-year, $51 million deal, according to the team’s announcement on Thursday. Ehlers was the top-ranked free agent to hit the market, generating interest from multiple clubs over the past three days.
Ehlers, coming off a strong 2024-25 campaign with 24 goals and 53 points in 69 games, joins the Hurricanes after playing for the Winnipeg Jets. The signing comes with significant cap space, as the team had $18.26 million remaining before securing Ehlers.
General manager Eric Tulsky confirmed talks with Ehlers’ agent, stating they would wait to see where interest lay after Ehlers’ popularity grew. The winger has 225 goals and 520 points in his career, following a seven-year, $42 million contract with the Jets.
This move follows the Hurricanes locking up forward Logan Stankoven to an eight-year, $48 million deal extension. Additionally, Carolina acquired defenseman K’Andre Miller from the New York Rangers for a trade involving Scott Morrow and draft picks.
