Robinhood Offers OpenAI Tokens to EU Users Amid Regulatory Hurdles

Robinhood has unveiled tokenized shares of OpenAI and SpaceX, but the company’s partnership with the AI giant remains disputed. Despite this, the platform is offering 5 euros worth of tokens to eligible EU users as part of a broader product showcase.

OpenAI has emphasized that it did not partner with Robinhood on the tokens and warned users to be careful. The company stated that “any transfer of OpenAI equity requires our approval” but denied approving any such transfer.

The move comes amid regulatory barriers for US users, who are excluded from accessing these tokens. Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood’s SVP and GM of crypto, believes this is about expanding access to financial products and democratizing participation in the economy.

However, OpenAI’s stance raises questions about the dynamics between crypto platforms and companies whose names and equity are being represented on-chain.
