Hurricanes Sign Forward Nikolaj Ehlers to 6-Year Contract

The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to terms with forward Nikolaj Ehlers on a six-year contract worth $8.5 million per year. The deal will keep Ehlers in Carolina through the 2030-31 season.

Nikolaj Ehlers, 29, is a highly skilled winger who can skate and fit well with the Hurricanes’ forward group. He completed his 10th NHL season in 2024-25, scoring 24 goals and adding 39 assists for the Winnipeg Jets.

Ehlers was originally selected by Winnipeg in the first round of the 2014 NHL Draft. He has totaled 520 points in 674 career games with the Jets, including eight seasons where he scored 20 or more goals.

A native of Denmark, Ehlers has represented his country internationally in various competitions, including the World U20 Championship and IIHF World Championships. The Hurricanes are proud to have Ehlers join their team, saying he’s a top free agent who will fit well with their forward group.
